Problem
This marble countertop had etch marks that diminished the elegant appearance of the stone, as you can see in the BEFORE images. The etching was caused by acids in food or drinks chemically reacting with the surface of the stone, giving the once-smooth finish an unsightly rough texture.
DIY polishing compounds can sometimes be used to remove minor etches, but for severe etching, etch removal should only be performed by a professional stone restoration contractor to avoid further damage of the stone.
Solution
First, we used a series of diamonds grit pads to hone away the rough texture of the etch and remove other surface damage. Then we polished the stone to the glossy finish you see in the AFTER images, and re-sealed the stone. The homeowners were very satisfied with the end result.
